The 2nd race of the Sprint Cup Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway was full of long runs. The race started with a 200+ green flag run, which is the longest green flag run since 135 races prior. Kurt Busch started on the pole, and led the first 40 laps, but was soon overtaken by Matt Kenseth who led the second most laps today. Kenseth seemed to have an unbeatable car, but he was black flagged, for failing to serve a pit road penalty. After that, Kevin Harvick took the lead, and led the most laps of the race, with over 100. With about 40 to go, an early pit top by Jimmie Johnson, put him in the lead over Harvick, but Johnson's tires were 9 laps older. The tire life eventually caught up with him, as Harvick closed in with 5 to go. Ryan Newman crashed with 5 to go, allowing Johnson to pit and replace his tires. On the final restart, Johnson, Kyle Busch, and Dale Jr. had excellent restarts, while Kevin Harvick had a terrible restart. A multi-car crash occured on the backstretch after Johnson passed the restart line, allowing Johnson to take the win, and tie Dale Sr. for the 7th most wins all time, at 76. Dale Jr. and Kyle Busch raced to the line for 2nd, but Dale Jr. edged out Busch by inches. Here are the race results:
